Is it deja vu? On Friday, the Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments again questioned whether the Lord Chancellor was acting beyond his powers in introducing a new sliding scale of probate fees, as they did almost two years ago.
It looks like we will go through the same performance next Spring as we did back in 2017 of trying to complete the required paperwork, be it submission of IHT accounts or grant applications, as quickly as possible before Probate Fee Deadline Day. Will the outcome be same this time around with the plans to increase the fees being shelved again at the last minute? I'm not so sure, but only time will tell.
